Jul. 22nd, 2008 05:40 pmfrequently asked questions by friends and family not answered by terminus:
1) please don't die! (mother, that's not a question)
2) how many dykes are going to this thing? (i don't know, and it's not like i'm going to hook up anyway, scott)
3) so you say if i went i'd be fangirled because i'm a boy? even though i don't write porn? (vince is so cute)
4) did you read this latest article in the paper talking about tourist scams? (dad, i'm not going to buy any gold rings from street vendors, i promise)
5) how the hell are you supposed to sleep with three other people in the room (i don't plan on sleeping) why not, are you picking up something (i'm not buying drugs in a foreign country, how fucking stupid do you think i am?)
faq's by me, not answered by terminus:
1) seriously though, how am i going to sleep?
2) will they like me?
3) how can i possibly go to all the things i want to go to, and still have time to hang out with people (presuming they like me)?
4) is there a mcdonalds close by? i need hashbrowns the way most people need coffee.
5) what do i need to bring? a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, how many shirts? books? notebooks? hand held video games?
6) what am i going to do when i'm on a bus for 23 hours?
7) where am i going to crash when i get to the hilton at 5.30 am, and i can't check in until noon?
things that terminus could probably answer, but i feel too stupid to ask
1) they say we need to come with id. what id? i have a passport, my social insurance number, my liquor card, my college enterance card, my birth certificate, my manitoba health insurance card...
2) they say we need a copy of our registration. where's that? is that in an email? do i seriously have to go through like 8 months of emails to find it? *sigh*
3) is there somewhere i can sit down/lay down for 6 hours while i'm waiting to get my room/is there a room that all the early trip fandomers can hang out, so i can make friends?
4) what's all this stuff about transfers? in my gala-world, a transfer is a little bit of paper you get from the bus guy when you have to ride more then one bus in a single trip.
5) WHAT DO THEY MEAN BY MINOR? i'm 20, which in my world is either 2 or 4 years away from minor, depending. but in america, it's 21, right? i have no chaperone, so i'm hoping to hell that by minor they don't mean under 21.

Date: 2008-07-22 11:12 pm (UTC)2) will they like me? Yes.
3) how can i possibly go to all the things i want to go to, and still have time to hang out with people (presuming they like me)? By...not sleeping. HEH.
4) is there a mcdonalds close by? i need hashbrowns the way most people need coffee. There probably is. Chicago is one of the biggest cities in the U.S. It has a McDonalds somewhere.
5) what do i need to bring? a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, how many shirts? books? notebooks? hand held video games? Clothes, toiletries, something to do on the bus...that's pretty much it.
6) what am i going to do when i'm on a bus for 23 hours? Read a book, listen to music, etc?
7) where am i going to crash when i get to the hilton at 5.30 am, and i can't check in until noon? There's apparently a coffee shop right around the corner you could visit that has free wifi. Also, there will probably be other attendees at the hotel in costumes and stuff...you could strike up a conversation.
1) they say we need to come with id. what id? i have a passport, my social insurance number, my liquor card, my college enterance card, my birth certificate, my manitoba health insurance card... An ID, in this case, is something government-issued with your name and a photo on it. So for me, it's my driver's license. A passport would be comparable.
2) they say we need a copy of our registration. where's that? is that in an email? do i seriously have to go through like 8 months of emails to find it? *sigh* It's an e-mail that you received when you registered, but I had lost mine. I contacted the registration person and asked to be sent another copy, which she did within a few hours. She also said that as long as I have my ID, I should be okay, but that bringing your confirmation e-mail was a precaution just in case.
3) is there somewhere i can sit down/lay down for 6 hours while i'm waiting to get my room/is there a room that all the early trip fandomers can hang out, so i can make friends? You didn't get a ticket to the Wrock concert, did you? Because you could always go to that...
4) what's all this stuff about transfers? in my gala-world, a transfer is a little bit of paper you get from the bus guy when you have to ride more then one bus in a single trip. It's if you decide not to go, you can transfer your registration to another person and they can go in your place (and they give you the money for it). As long as you're still coming, it's nothing you need to worry about. :)
5) WHAT DO THEY MEAN BY MINOR? i'm 20, which in my world is either 2 or 4 years away from minor, depending. but in america, it's 21, right? i have no chaperone, so i'm hoping to hell that by minor they don't mean under 21. In the US, a minor is someone under 18. Under 18 you can't vote, buy cigarettes, and are considered a minor. Between 18 and 21, you can do those things and are considered an adult, you just can't drink. After 21, you're free to drink and do all those things as well.
Any of that help?

Date: 2008-07-22 11:36 pm (UTC)outta curiousity though, why don't you want to go? i mean, it's not like a stupid school dance, where you have to worry about boys picking you. not only would both of us not want boys to pick us, our room holds one of the few boys, and as such he would be obligated to dance. but seriously, we could totally just rock it out. it could be fun?

Date: 2008-07-22 11:41 pm (UTC)It takes a lot to embarrass me, though. I mean, it's doable, but it takes awhile.
I don't want to go because I hate dressing up. And all that stuff. Just...nah. I'd rather get drunk, chill with my friends, and watch boys make out or talk about how they don't want to sound like a queer or nothing, but they'd kind of like to make love to each other tonight. Hee. :-D

I'll bring all my M/T DVDs and we can just improvise as we go. And it's not like you'll get any complaints from me, 'cause I love them all. Except possibly Team America. Even though the songs from it rock.

3) is there somewhere i can sit down/lay down for 6 hours while i'm waiting to get my room/is there a room that all the early trip fandomers can hang out, so i can make friends? Try the lounge, unless you can't sleep with people around you. Even then you can at least sit down, almost every hotel/etc. has one.

Uh... no. A minor is anyone under the age of eighteen. You must be twenty-one to purchase alcohol, but that is not the adult age for everything else (buying cigarettes, voting, et cetera).
