because in person, if someone asks you a question you have to answer immediately. yes, no, fuck off, whatever it is you have to say something.
ex: at a bar, a pretty girl walks up to you "do you want to come home with me?" she asks. "yeah, that'd be great" i answer.
however, with email, you have time to think about all the consequences. all the possible things that can go wrong.
ex: email from a boy you haven't talked to for at least a year, but he was a nice guy when you knew him, and even better, he was actually physically attracted to you, as compared to every other person you've ever met "blah blah, we could have sex if you want". me: frozen staring at the screen for over an hour trying to figure out what the FUCK to do.
