So, I'm now done Fringe. I love Fringe more than any other event in a given year. More than Christmas, or conventions, or concerts, or babies being born. FRINGE IS MY BRO.

A list of the top eight things of Fringe 2012

1) Cameron Moore's play. I see her every year, she does one woman shows about her experiences in BDSM. This years was a choose your adventure, so she asked the audience questions like 'should we do this naked or clothed' and 'should I be silent or loud'. I got asked who should make the first move, and in a dazzling display of my own sub-ness, I first said "whatever you want" (deferrentally, not snarkily) and then 'you should.' But it gets better, because later one she asked a question about if we should snuggle afterwards, and came over and started stroking my hair. A completely nude dom older woman was stroking my hair. BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER.

2) Realising that Cameron Moore's handbills had coupons for a sex shop. 22 dollars off any toy. PERFECT TIMING.

3) Being complimented on my t-shirt...it was the first day I'd worn a Threadless shirt, which is what approximately half the attendees were wearing. At the end of the day we all wanna be indie.

4) Getting comp tickets twice. Yes, one of them really sucked, but considering I had it on my list of 'maybes' I'm glad I saw it for free instead of paying for it.

5) surprise!gay. See, I intentionally see every play that involves gay content, because that's one of my fields of interest. But sometimes there are gay plots or gay characters that aren't listed in the program, and you find out in a review. And SOMETIMES, you wind up watching one before reading a review and you get an actual surprise. I love it in books and movies and tv, and it's even BETTER in plays. When suddenly some man is making out with another man a few feet away, yeah, it's nice. This year there were 3!

6) Watching Big In Germany. One of the surprise!gay plays, but better than the play about bullying or the gay stand up comic. Big in Germany was like watching a fic. AMAZING. These two friends have a band, and their video goes viral in Germany so they go and tour and make a ton of money. Prior to this, MC1 is a dialogue writer for het porn, and MC2 is unemployed. When they come back to canada after a year, they blow their savings renting out a arena for a concert no one comes to, and they have to get jobs. MC1 goes back to porn, but the director gives him a opportunity to run a gay studio. MC1 is all I'M NOT GAY WHY WOULD I WANT TO BECAUSE ME? SUPER SUPER NOT GAY!!! And the director rolls his eyes. So then MC1 starts writing a porn script about two best friends that want to be rockstars and get popular in Germany and then have crazy sex. And then MC2 finds the script and is all WAS OUR FRIENDSHIP EVEN REAL, OR DID YOU JUST WANT MY DICK? BECAUSE YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND, BRO! and they have a falling out.
But then they become friends again. How? MC2 goes and tries out for MC1's porn, and strips totally naked to prove he's got the goods for it. And then MC2 becomes a famous gay porn star, and MC1 keeps writing scripts for him and they're happy best friends forever after.
TELL ME THAT ISN'T THE BEST FIC EVER.

7) When I was at one of the storytelling ones, at noon, so there was a small crowd. And I was laughing the whole time. And the guy stops after one story and points to me and says "Oh man, I love you. I love that you're here. You laugh at everything!" well, when you're telling stories about stealing mannequins and fucking them, I do.

8) Normally plays are for teenagers, adults, and elderly. There's a separate kids Fringe, with about 8 plays, and adults might go see them (last year I saw two, this year old). And there's only one venue that's in a bar so under 18s can't come in, the rest are technically all ages. But it's weird to see little ones. And in another storytelling one a mom brought her baby. And Shelby Bond got totally distracted. He wandered to that side of the stage and started interacting with the baby, making faces and dancing the way it was. Then he said "I'm not allowed to look in this direction anymore, it's distracting".
