Dec. 7th, 2011 07:54 pmIt's Christmas in RL too. Which means different things for different people, but for me it means it's time to provide my entire extended family with a metric fuckton of cookies. Or, well...21 butter-pounds worth.
Basically what it boils down to is My grandma used to make shortbread for everyone, and the only one that was interested in learning how was my dad. So as she got older they split the chore (and bb!gala, who loved baking). Then she died and my dad's wrists are all fucked, so I am now the sole provider of shortbread cookies to a scottish family.
Today I started baking at 10am. I quit for the day at 5pm. Three batches done.
Me:

The dining room table, with some cookies already put away in tins. (which is another family tradition...everyone comes over and gives me like 6 cookie tins and are all FILL PLZ and I fill. There are stacks of tins EVERYWHERE right now) Cookies are about half an inch thick (that way the sugar carmelises) and 3 inches wide:

This mocks me, because that's the laptop I use each day. My writing area smells of fresh shortbread and I want to eat ALL OF IT, but each peice I eat is another batch I have to make later.
The plus side is that in all the thirteen minute increments between turning them, I have time for crafting. So I made some necklaces for a swap:

They're all gradiented, lighter shades on one side, then middle, then dark. It was so much fun, I have maybe 30 colours of acrylic paint, but I seem to always find "reasons" to mix them, or tint them with white or black.
Close up on the colours:
