So, in like three clicks of the mouse I've just committed myself to 30 more k. *snickers* I signed up for spacebigbang twice, and crossbigbang once.

The first space is with Harry Potter. That's either going to be Harry/Ron, Harry/Ron/Hermione, or gen. Probably trio, but I haven't decided yet. It'll be awesome, I've missed my oldest fandom, and as Caty has pointed out, Bandom has taught me the way of a really sweet ass AU.

The second space is of course bandom. My inital yearning was to do a recast of my favourite author's trilogy in which people find aliens out by saturn, but they only communicate through dancing. I love everything that man creates, so the idea was a bit intimidating. I started to reread it for the fiftieth time, recasting solely on matching personalities, not really caring about hook ups. Upon finishing the book though, I realised that no one would EVER READ it:
There's past hooking up between Ray and Mikey. And then Ray falls in love with Gerard. Gerard (temporarily) dies. Ray hooks up and eventually marries Mikey. Pete approaches Ray and Mikey and says he wants to go to space with them, they say okay. Bob is a construction worker in space, Brian is a ship commander. When Ray and Mikey and Pete start looking for more earth dancers to come up to space with them, the only one that works out is Frank. Frank and Brian hate each other for a bit, they find each other very annoying. Then they get over that and fall in love. and then later on in the book you find out Bob and Pete have been in love half the book and were just secretive about it.
So now I have decided to do something else. There will still be aliens though, because aliens kick ass.

Crossbigbang, well, there's no question about it. A bandom/xmen movieverse crossover. I had about 40 ideas for my 'mutants' square on my au table, and the one I chose wound up like 6k long. I'm combining a few of my ideas into a bang. I'm also watching a movie marathon today to see if there are interesting canon bits to pick up on. Halfway through x1 and I am already TAKING NOTES.

I would offer a banner, but sadly crossbb doesn't have one. But it's in my comms list, and I highly suggest you go sign up. Last year's didn't have any bandom or HP fics produced, and that's just sad.

EVERYONE'S not in bandom *grins*

(When I post my bandom/southpark in a few days you totally have to read it. Because you will be the only one that catches references.)

STARDANCE? IS THAT THE BOOK YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT BY SPIDER AND JEANNE ROBINSON? IS IT? IS IT?

*FACE EXPLODES*

you read Spider Robinson?

I fucking fangirl Spider Robinson so hard you don't even know. I once made my dad drive me to a used bookstore like an hour away from the house because they were the only bookstore in the city that had Callahan's Legacy. I'm seriously considering going to a sci-fi con this summer just because he's speaking, even though I've never been to a sci-fi con, just HP ones.

Yes. I just want Ray Toro, the film student who's hooked up with Mikey in the past, who owns a dance studio, and his brother Gerard is a really mindblowingly good dancer but he doesn't fit the type so he doesn't ever get any roles. But Ray BELIEVES IN HIM so they try to do their own thing. And when it fails Ray goes off and does his own thing, while Gerard finds a rich man to sell himself to so he can go into space. And then Raoul has to be Pete, all fanboy and I LOVE YOUR SHIT I WANT TO JOIN!, and Harry is totally Bob, steady and fixing shit, and cranky!Tom is Brian, and weirdo-in-your-face-with-honesty Linda is Frank. All the personalities work perfectly. It's just when you follow them into their relationships you're left with Pete/Bob and Frank/Brian, and WTF? Who the hell would read that?

Also I'm not sure I'm super awesome with describing dancing, and while Starseed cuts down on descriptions a lot, Stardance is at least 50% dancing. So I think I'm just going to write something else.

Spider is SO awesome, and he's so great in person. Just funny and smart and ugh ugh ugh. I LOVE HIM. I now have to reread the entire trilogy.

The only time I've met an author I've loved was Tamora Peirce. I just wish it had been later, because at the time I was able to thank her for the bi and lesbian characters, but a few months later she released a book with a trans character.

Spider Robinson basically rehauled my entire system. I read Callahan's Con when I was twelve, and between the pot smoking and the polygamy and alcohol and being kind to everyone I learned a lot of lessons about tolerance and acceptance and what sort of person I should be as an adult. I ended up reading the entire series peicemeal, as I could get my hands on various copies at used bookstores, and then started trying to get his other stuff. I don't even know what I would say to him... thanks for making me the person I am today...keep being awesome? I'm currently intensely jealous that you met him *grins*

I figure the best thing I can ever do or say about Spider is to live my life by the Callahan's code: Shared pain is lessened, shared joy increased. All his books, in so many ways, are about tolerance, and that's another great thing that comes from his writing. Plus, you know, he's funny as hell.

Have you read Mindkiller? OMG, that one slays me over and over again. And Night of Power. Ugh. I love him.

Jesus H, Night Of Power is such a ballsy thing to write. I think the first time I read it I was younger and mostly just went OHHH, STAGEGAY. But reading it again now it's like SHIIIIIT, he actually wrote about a racewar, and didn't let people calling racefail put him off?

Sadly, the only two books of his I don't own are Mindkiller and God Is An Iron. I have Time Pressure and Lifehouse though. And oddly enough I read Time Pressure before I got into his stuff, and for over a year was like WHAT BOOK WAS THAT THAT HAD THE FOURSOME?! (possibly my parents would have been upset at a 11 year old reading that, but they're the ones that let me wander the library unheeded. Better sex from SR than all the violence of King, right?)

I think my favourite might be Lady Slings the Booze. (she tolerates monosexuals, like satyrists, she just doesn't understand them!) Although one of the lines I'll never forget is from Lifehouse: everyone is an asshole. it's just if you admit it or not. (paraphrased)

The first book of his I read was "Melancholy Elephants" and I fell completely in love, and the "God is an Iron" segment led me to "Mindkiller", which led me to everything else. The first time I read "Night of Power", I didn't really like it, but then I read it again, and it really struck a chord. I don't think it's a novel he could write now because there are too many people with too easy access to call him out on race fail or privilege or whatever, but his message is no less important for all of that.

I'll have to see if I can find a copy of Mindkiller around here for you. :D

OMG I WOULD LICK YOUR SHOES. Not even metaphorically, if you mailed me the book and your shoes I would kiss them then mail them back. It's out of print in bookstores, and normally I'd just order it online, but the last two times I've tried to order a book online the seller didn't actually mail it and I got refunds from the company. It's made me temporarily distrusting of the online book industry.

Also, if you do manage to find one, I will totally pay it forward. I've got an entire shelf of 'books people I care about should read', except my guy friends are not big on the sci-fi/fantasy. Hell, I'll let you have first pick. Well, working on the idea that Spider Robinson isn't just a fluke, that you like sci-fi/fantasy in general.

I would love to sign up for crossbb, but all the crossover fic I want to write is at least partly about anime, and everyone else there seems basically Western fandom.

Your space idea just makes me think of this song:

that was an awesome song, the video was great.

Sign up for it anyway! Last year no one signed up with Bandom or Harry Potter, and if I wasn't writing my bandom/xmen I'd be writing the massive epic au I have where St John comes into Harry's life in Order of the Phoenix. Write it if you want to write it!

OMG are you doing bandom!Stardance?!!!!!

Edit: Okay so I should learn to read the comments before getting squeeful *blush* I can see the problem of weird pairings although I like those pairings anyway so... have you thought about maybe keeping the Stardance universe and doing your own plotting in it? (if this is totally annoying feel free to tell me to shut up)

Bandom/xmen sounds awesome. I'm super curious to know what powers the Ways will have.

I'M SO TORN NOW. SERIOUSLY. Because I have gotten decent support here, and Ray really, REALLY wants to be Charlie Armastead. HE EVEN HAS A BIT OF A FILM BACKGROUND IN CANON. Sort of. And when I started recasting it all seemed to fit so nicely. Pete's totally the fanboy that runs to their table and is like I NEED TO HELP YOU DO YOUR THING. (although I think in this he would probably write as many lyrics as he would melodies), Brian's totally Tom with his fucking hell, Linda(Frank) is such a fucker, I can't deal with this shit!. And I feel I vaguely owe it to Spider Robinson to push his books into further readership (I've mailed copies of callahan's crosstime saloon to people on the flist) since I love everything he does and he basically formed my mental mindset when I was at the impressionable age of 12.

But at the same time, when I decided I wasn't going to write it, I remembered my own idea of MCR's new cd, back when all we knew was a picture of a ray gun with the word exterminate, and mention of casting for a 'ladyboy with good abs and rollerskates'. And I really want to write a rollerskating gang of alien exterminators. SO TORN.

Xmen is a fandom I keep on entering for a few months and leaving and going back to. It's like Buffy, except Buffy I only wrote for in one solid streak, whereas this'll be like my fourth time diving in. I wrote a shorter one the other day that I'm in the middle of editing, and I just winged it off what I remembered because I knew if I watched the movie to get canon correct I'd be drawn back in. And then a day later crossbb came out and all I could say was FFFFFFFFFF. For my movie marathon I had to pause halfway through x2 because that movie makes me SO FURIOUS. I love it, but I have an intense emotional bond with it. I think I watched it like 7 times in theatres, the most I've ever paid to watch anything. Goblet of Fire clocks in next at 2 showings. Xmen is the fandom of my heart, the only fandom in which I have an unbreakable OTP. Bobby/John forever<3

Possibly crazy. But I finished a third of the harry potter spacebb last night, a third done on the first day of sign ups is a good sign. My real problem is the bandom spacebb, because I don't know which one of two plots I'm really attached to to write. I wanted to write one for scifibb, but scifibb says no rps, which makes me a sad panda.

2010 was the year of the bingo for me, I think 2011 shall be the year of the bang. It's the fic OCD thing setting in again. I'm writing RPS with mcr gsf, and then I'm writing werewolf with Mikey/Gabe, and vampire with Bob/multiple, and I decided that it was only fair if each of the boys had a BB from their pov. So depending on with what space I go with, it'll be Ray or Frank. I'm hoping desfinado will still do her Mikey/Gerard BB because I've got this epic idea from Gerard's pov. Either Ray or Frank depending will be Horrorbigbang. bandom big bang is going to be my OTP, Mikey/Gabe/Pete. and AU bb will probably be my secondary OTP, Brendon/Spencer/Ryan.

In conclusion... fiiiiiiic!

So far it's turning into a Harry/Ron, Ron/Hermione thing, with no Harry/Hermione interaction. But we'll see, it's only half done.
