so they fired me. and then told me i had to work for the next two weeks. bitch fucking what?

but hahaha, from what i've heard from other staff, they have FOUR people putting in their two weeks notice this week. one girl wasn't going to quit, she was just frustrated about her shift, it's a split and she doesn't like it. but when i came in and told her they fired me, she got really mad, and when she came back in the afternoon she'd already started applying to other daycares. they're going to be so fucked this summer, and i will laugh. hard.

also, now i have time to go to fringe every day all day. it's a big relief, i was going to miss so much by working those ten days.

dude, it's awesome.

basically it's this two week festival in july in which about one hundred different plays play in makeshift venues all along main street. like, we're talking storage rooms of used clothing stores. most only seat between 30-150 people. each play is on at a different time each day, and you can't prepurchase tickets so it's a logistical challenge and a half to make a schedule for it. last year i managed to see 26 plays, but i was worried this year because i work and i wouldn't be able to see like 5 some days, when the timing fits. BUT NOW I DON'T WORK.

however, of the 12 days, for 4 i'll be at infinitus, so i have 8 days to see as many plays as possible. i think i'll aim for 30. i fucking love it, i usually spend about 200 bucks a summer for it.

the winnipeg fringe festival is the third biggest in the world. before that it's edinborough and the one in alberta. but we winnipeggers don't count alberta. it's not fair because they have more funding and more venues. there's a fringe in basically every capital city in canada, and most troupes just roadtrip the whole summer.

yeah, it's seriously the most fucking fun thing ever. i just wake up around 11, bus to main street, and hang out with my trusty map and schedule until like 2am when the last bus is leaving. there are vendors for food, and a outdoor mainstage for hearing gossip about what you seriously have to see. not to mention the posters taped EVERYWHERE and all the people walking around with signs or business cards. for the last three years i haven't even had a birthday party, because i'm july 22, and that's a fringe day and dude, plays are way more important than cake.

the edinbourogh one is the most famous one of them all. i think it would be a bit overwhelming probably, we might have 100 different plays, but i think they have like 200?

Yah, that would be pretty overwhelming, do they have a longer schedule or is it two weeks like yours? And awesome way to celebrate your b-day!

so sayeth wikipedia: 265 venues, over 25 days. dude, and that's assuming only one play per venue. i mean, i've never been, but here usually five or six plays share one venue. *flails* i am so damn jealous. but my GOD, the planning nightmare that would be. i serious use a chart/graph system to figure out what i'm gonna be seeing, 265 plays over 25 days? mother of god.

*winces* if you read further down the wikipedia entry, it says tickets can be as much as 20l, 30 dollars canadian. that's mental. all tickets here are between 5-9 dollars. and if you get a frequent fringer pass it can be even cheaper. i totally couldn't afford to binge on edinbourgh fringe.

last birthday i watched four plays, got home at like 3 am and had cake and vodka. it was pretty fucking sweet.

If you read farther on the wiki entry is says that many of the plays are free as well. And it would be fun to go and see a few plays and then just be able to brag that I've been! *grins*

Also, awesome b-day!
