Three Kisses
Lily/Heather
i don't do ratings.
lily has a first kiss in a ballgown, an embarassing kiss in a tunic, and a goodbye kiss in a jacket.

warning! i went back and forth between present and past tense. i tried to fix it, but i'm not sure how well i did.

It’s the Pureblood ball, and of course Lily is with James. Her Gryffindor friends Rebecca and Shannon have been persuaded to go with Remus and Peter, and Sirius has decided he wants no date, so he’s free to be with anyone. She knows many of the people here, and knows they know the only reason she’s here is because James picked her.

To her it seems ridiculous to glide about in hooped ball gowns and cast anti sweating spells on themselves so they don’t shame their femininity in the 30 degree weather. She’s already seen a girl faint from the heat, and knows more will go down before the night is over.

He strides off, to get them both some wine. As people dance around her, she crosses her arms over the laced bodice of her dress. Her mother had told her that she looked stunning, but compared to the rest of the girls in the room, she’s nothing. Especially compared to the blonde in the corner. She’s in a hunter dress, the skirt a shade darker then the strapless tulle boned bustier. There are silver beads sewn over the bodice, and she has silver tinsel woven throughout her hair.

When the blonde looks up, and notices Lily’s staring at her, she looks away, but not quickly enough. Lily can hear the slight swish of the crinoline under her skirt moving as she comes over to her. “Yes?” she asks, with a slight accent.

“I’m sorry.” Lily whispers.

“For what?” the blonde is curious.

“For staring.”

“Why were you?”

“Because you’re beautiful.”

“And so are you.”

“I’m nothing compared to you.”

“Lily Evans, don’t put yourself down. You’re lovely.” the blonde said, reaching out her hand, and brushing away a corkscrewed tendril of hair that was hanging in Lily’s face.

Lily said nothing, not wanting to break the fantasy this was leading up to.

“Dear, I have to get back to my boyfriend now. But stay late tonight, be one of the last to leave. This is my boyfriend’s home, so we can talk then.”

Lily watched as she swept away, moving through the crowd like sand through fingers. A moment later James came back, so Lily asked whose house this was.

“Robert Turpin’s. Why do you ask?”

“No reason.” and before James could ask more questions, she kissed him. She didn’t like it, but it wasn’t a big deal either, and if it got him to be quiet, why not?

Hours later, she watched as a drunk James, Sirius and Peter climbed into a carriage and were taken to Peter’s house. It was safest to go there, not only were his parents rather dense, they were so happy he had friends, they could get away with anything there. Lily had seen Remus leave with Rebecca, which she had been almost positive would happen; Rebecca liked scars.

As the guests dwindled, and house elves started to come in to clean, the blonde whispered something in her boyfriend’s ear, and he went up stairs that outlined the circular wall. Then she came over to Lily.

“Hello. I’m Heather Charemtu, but I’ll be Heather Turpin by the end of this year. I’m in Ravenclaw, in seventh year, and I think that’s certainly enough information about me. You are Lily Evans, you’ll most likely be Lily Potter by the end of this year. You’re in Gryffindor in seventh year, and that’s mostly everything I know about you. And we both know none of these facts matter.”

Heather leaned in, and her hair gel covered locks crackled as she pressed her face to Lily’s. And if it wasn’t the fireworks that had been declared in so many romance novels, it was certainly a sparkler worth of heat.

It was Halloween night, and everyone that could escape had gone to Peter’s house. He wasn’t picky, he let in other houses, as long as they were in year five or up, and they wore a costume.

Lily was dressed as Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. She had a quiver of arrows slung across her back, and she had transfigured a pillow into a soft owl to sit on her shoulder without scratching her.

Across the room, was Heather, who had told Robert she was a stripper, but Lily knew she was actually Aphrodite, goddess of beauty. She was wearing seafoam silk and gauze, and was gorgeous. As Lily tried to not stare at her, dancing and thrusting against Robert, James grabbed her arm, and brought her over to the rest of the Greek crew.

Sirius was wearing a golden loincloth, and he also had arrows. He was Apollo, and he already had a girl on his arm. James was wearing armour, he was Ares, and I guess he had me on his arm. Remus had dyed his skin blue and was wearing wings, he was Hermes. And Peter was just wearing black school robes, but had painted bruises on his face, he was Hades.

Later in the night, Lily was able to get away, and for that she was happy. The boys were getting increasingly gross as they got drunk, Sirius had shifted his loincloth several times, and Remus kept referring to Peter as Wormtail, and James as Prongs. He offered to explain, but Lily really didn’t need to hear what kind of groin jokes the nicknames started from.

She was making her way to Rebecca and Shannon, but she saw Robert leave for more fire whiskey, and took her chance. She weaved through the crowd, and reciprocated the light touch of months ago. After Heather’s hair was out of her face, they kissed, barely stopping for air. At least until Lily felt someone tap her back.

She turned around, and blushed. It was Robert, who asked politely, “May I cut in?”

Lily nodded her head, and rushed back to James and company.

It was a cold February Quidditch match, between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Robert was a chaser for Ravenclaw, while James was for Gryffindor. Lily wasn’t paying any attention to the game though, not even when the Seekers crashed into each other, and both got a bleeding nose. She was paying attention to the slim stomach of the girl next to her, breathing in and out. For some stupid reason, Heather wasn’t wearing a coat, and Lily was worried about her.

“Look at our boys.” Lily turned her head. That was the first thing Heather had said to her.

“In 5 months, they’ll truly be ours. Forever.”

“Do they have to be?” Lily asked.

“We both know they do.”

“Well, I guess this is-” Lily didn’t get to say goodbye, because Heather closed her mouth with hers instead. The entire crowd burst into applause, and it took Lily a minute to realise it wasn’t for them, but for Ravenclaw, who had won the game. Heather stood up, and went to go preen beside her manly winner, and Lily went to go console her manly loser.
